Additional Information/ Further Reading

Below are the sources I looked at while researching this topic.

This website is published by The American Society of Plastic Surgeons. "The ASPS cautions teenagers and parents to keep in mind that plastic surgery is real surgery, with great benefits, but also carries some risks." This web page states pros and cons of cosmetic surgery in teens.
American Society of Plastic Surgeons. "Plastic Surgery for Teenagers Briefing Paper." American Society of Plastic Surgeons. ASPS, n.d. Web. 21 Nov. 2013. <http://www.plasticsurgery.org/news-and-resources/briefing-papers/plastic-surgery-for-teenagers.html>.

This website gave me insight on the changing bodies of teenagers.

This website highlights some of  the stresses that make teenagers particularly vulnerable. It also suggests healthy ways to cope with stress.

This following articles both provide information on the positive and negative aspects of cosmetic surgery for teenage girls and teens in general. They can be found in the Issues and Controversies database.

This article backs the basis of this blog. It shines light on why plastic surgery can be harmful to teenagers. Zuckerman and Abraham say, “if the goal of cosmetic surgery is to feel better about [oneself]…many girls and women seeking cosmetic surgery might benefit more from therapeutic approaches aimed at improving self-esteem or general body image or those aimed at decreasing depression” (321).
